Dichloromethane is used as an eluent mixed with hexane for normal phase HPLC. It is also an excellent sample solvent and extraction solvent. For prep HPLC it has the advantage of being extremely easy to evaporate off, but for the same reason, care must be taken to prevent evaporation if it is used as a sample solvent. Otherwise concentration changes will make calibration impossible.
