Practical Problem Solving in HPLC (2000)

Stavros Kromidas (NOVIA GmbH, Germany)

ISBN 3-527-29842-8 paperback

Laserchrom Review : This is a really interesting and useful book. He selects common HPLC problems (such as too short a column life, changing retention times, memory effects etc) and handles each in a couple of pages which can be read in isolation from the rest of the book. Hence it is really easy to dip into for information, yet makes you want to read "just one more section" before you put it down. He also covers optimisation of a separation, and basic choices such as buffer concentration, or "methanol or acetonitrile"! The real point is that you end up actually reading this book. Many chromatographers will say they know this all already. Well if you still say this after reading the book, you are a truly experienced and knowledgeable chromatographer!

Publishers Summary :For 45 typical questions of HPLC users, the answers and general conclusions are presented on no more than 4 pages each. The book covers; simple equipment tests and selection criteria for columns, buffers etc; specific problems and how to solve them; oputions for optimizing seperations. The book also features a special chapter on the retention of ionizable components in RP-HPLC, references, data tables and check lists. It's a first aid kit for every HPLC user.
